The newly-formed Shire of Grenville acquired this site and built the Shire offices and Hall in 1861-2. The two-storey brick building housed offices and a Council Chamber on the ground floor, with a hall above for events such as meetings and concerts.
The first photo shows Grenville Shire Councillors in front of the original building, while the second and third photos are of the offices after 1887. By 1938, the building had deteriorated, and a new Art-Deco style office was opened in 1939 (third photo).
In 1989, extensive interior alterations were made, and in 1994, following Shire amalgamations, Grenville Shire became part of Golden Plains Shire. The council later vacated the building, which stood empty until local community groups began using it.
In 2024, the building became the Linton Community Hub, managed by a committee representing a range of local community groups.
