There are three private barns here and it is run by a committee of people. Priority for horse boarding is given to Burnaby residents to be members here. As a member people can lease a stall and bring their horse in and enjoy the facility and trails. All of the decisions are made by the board and it is mostly women who ride here and do the work and make the decisions. It is self board which means owners are responsible for the daily care of their horse which includes mucking the stall and paddocks, cleaning the water bucket and refilling it, feeding and blanketing the horses when it’s rainy or cold out. Here are some of the chores associated with horse care.
It’s fifteen minutes from my home in Vancouver to the barn. I lease and take dressage lessons on a lovely horse with a kind and curious personality named Capataz. Many people who have horses here also have a leasor to help with the chores and riding as seven days a week, rain or shine the horses need daily care.
