Many years ago, the municipality built a Kneipp facility in the “Altbach” at the edge of Eßweiler – right here, at the point where the old road to Schneeweiderhof branches off from the district road to Jettenbach. In summer, it is very popular with the residents of Eßweiler and neighboring communities. Cyclists and motorists passing by also like to take advantage of the refreshing facilities.
Previously, there was a hydrant at this location where the residents of Eßweiler could obtain water free of charge from the village’s old water pipe. In 2006, however, the municipality had the opportunity to buy back the fountain, elevated tank, and water pipe from the Weilerbach Water Utility Association for the rather symbolic sum of only 100 euros.
After the fountain on the village square was dismantled, the question arose as to what should be done with these parts. It quickly became clear to everyone that the fountain had to be rebuilt somewhere in the municipality!
Proposals for its implementation were made, considered, and then rejected. But in the end, the idea was to build a Kneipp facility.
A local architect drew up a plan for the project free of charge. This was presented to the municipal council on March 31, 2008, and the construction was approved. After the approval process was completed in July 2008, the hard-working people of Eßweiler were able to begin construction of their Kneipp basin.
On Saturday, June 27, 2009, the facility was officially opened with a small ceremony.
