Planning for the community center began as early as the late 1980s. Initially, the first proposed location was near the wastewater treatment plant, but it was later decided to choose a second site in the commercial area toward Jettenbach. The entire planning process had already been completed when the house with the barn in which we are now located was sold. It was then decided to discard the existing plans entirely and instead convert the barn here in the center of the village.
Financing, however, proved to be a major challenge. Many people were skeptical as to whether the project could be realized. Thanks to a generous grant from the state and additional district funds from the landfill site, the project was ultimately made possible. Without the support of many residents, who contributed a wide range of skills, this would not have been achievable. In addition, through voluntary labor valued at approximately 540,000 Deutsche Marks, no debt was incurred, which represents a remarkable achievement by our community. At the same time, the main building was also renovated, further increasing the value and functionality of the property. Fortunately, during this period many local residents were willing to help on the construction site, including those who had taken early retirement from employment at Opel, which provided us with additional resources and support.
This project demonstrates what community spirit, solidarity, and mutual support can accomplish. It is a place that strengthens and connects our community. Many celebrations, events, meetings, and also quiet moments have taken place here, enriching life in our village.
