Another sight in the tranquil “Alexandrinenstraße” is the fountain “Warnminner Ümgang”, in High German “Warnemünder Umgang”. The fountain is the work of sculptor Wolfgang Friedrich and was created in 2004. On a granite pedestal, 19 bronze figures in festive dress accompany the movement of the graceful water feature and recreate the “Ümgang” as a very important local tradition.
In earlier centuries, the “Warneminner Ümgang” always took place when the people of Warnemünde successfully appointed a new spokesman for the city of Rostock, who had to give an account of the interest and taxes collected to the bailiff.
Even now, the historic “Warneminner Ümgang” still takes place every year on the first weekend in July. Then it seems as if the bronze figures have come to life. Do you want to be there and experience everything live? Then drop by the seaside resort during Warnemünde Week.
