Walking towards the outermost part of Longyearbyen, about a kilometer away, a prominent red building appears on the right. Once Svalbard Galeri, it’s now owned by local artist Elisabeth Bourne. The building hosts the Spitsbergen Artist Residency and Nyben Artist Center, offering artists from around the world a chance to stay on the island and showcase their talents.
Both floors provide workshops for local and international artists, with the lower part also serving as a small gallery. Here, visitors can buy locally crafted artisanal souvenirs directly from the artists.
